the Sultan of Sing, the Champion of Chant and the Cowboy of Kirtan

nog maar eens een interview met Krishna Das, the Sultan of Sing, the Champion of Chant and the Cowboy of Kirtan: “In India they grow up with Gods, Sadhus, Saint, temples, Babas etc., I grew up with Mickey Mouse, and it’s a long way from Mickey Mouse to Ram.”

“You know, the idea is to just sing, and go in. Some people teach this practice with a tremendous amount of philosophy involved, and there are many books written about this stuff. I have never read one of them. I just sing, and if I’m thinking, I come back. I wanna be in the Love, I don’t wanna be thinking about it ? I wanna be there, and I have a low tolerance for not being there.”

“The books I read are the lives of Saints, all the Saints, from all the religions. How did they live in the world, what did they say, how did they manifest that place.”

“The chanting just hits you and you want to be a part of it. That’s the point of this whole thing. That’s what cuts through all the ‘stuff’. You get lit up. You don’t have to know what it means.”
